Workplace issues need to be addressed in order to retain registered nurses in Newfoundland, union president says
CORNER BROOK, N.L. — When Western Health brought in travel nurses this past summer, it was to help ensure local nurses were able to take the vacation time they were entitled to.
But the practice is continuing and it raised some questions about the fair treatment of local nurses earlier with week when a poster to a private online chat forum for Western Health nurses said they’d heard travel nurses had been offered time and half for every shift over Christmas if they agree to stay for a three-week schedule, and if they work every shift they agree to they would get $3,000 at the end of that period.
